Entrecard is the first of its kind. They are an ad exchange of 125x125 ads. What you do is make your card or select to use one from their predesigned cards. You go and advertise your blog on any blog that is signed up through Entrecard. It is still up to the website owner if they would like your ad on their website or not. You then wait to be approved or rejected.
As you can see in the previous image of one of my websites that is with Entrecard, the first day that I signed up I got a lot of hits to my website. I believe there are a couple of reasons for this. One is that when you sign up your site is shown on the "Most Recent" page until new sign ups knock you off. When you first start out with Entrecard it is very cheap for others to advertise on your blog. All blogs start out at 2 EC's per ad. You will get flooded with a lot of advertisers wanting to buy ad space from you. Make sure you look at the sites before approving them. When rejecting a site you must give them a reason why for your decision. There is a list of options to choose from. The one that I have had to use the most for my website is "Not relevant". I believe the rush of a new website brings every website owner wanting to get the cheapest deal possible. So, make sure you actually look at the websites.
Getting hits to your site is not the only reason to join Entrecard though. You find a lot of quality blogs that are very interesting while going through the lists of blogs and dropping your cards. I have found a great number of blogs personally that I have subscribed to. The added traffic isn't so bad either. If you are already a member of Entrecard, why not drop your card on Exentrique? There is always a new website that pops up every couple of months that promises to bring you more traffic and visitors. Rarely there is one that actually follows through on its promises or claims. So far, there is a website that has followed through. Although it is a give and receive sort of deal, the traffic does happen. The site I am talking about I am sure you have heard of it. If you have not heard of it, I am sure you have seen the widget on a number of blogs. 
The aspect that I enjoy about Entrecard is that you have to work at making your blog successful with it. You can not just post your widget up and hope people come to your site. You have to drop your card on others websites as well as advertise on other websites using your Entrecard Credits (EC). The first day you sign up you will receive an outstanding amount of traffic I have found. 
To get credits and hits you can drop your card on other peoples widgets. The widgets look like the image to the left and all you do is click on the "Drop yours" bar. It is automatically dropped and will now show up in the users inbox. In the previous image of my hits, you can see that I received them sporadically. The reason for that is the days I dropped my card on other users the days I got more hits. This is why you have to work at it to keep your hits up.
