I suppose it depends on the purpose of writing. If I you would be happy with 0 readership, or just friends reading the blog, then don't worry about the language. Once you start looking for a larger base of readers, though, language becomes more of a concern. I'm not saying swearing should never be in anyone's blog, just that the blogger needs to consider their audience and make some conscious decisions. Personally, I try not to curse on my blog. I don't want to limit my audience to those who are okay with it. More importantly, though, swearing in my writing seems like a cop out. I feel lazy when I do it. I'd rather find more creative and intense ways to express my thoughts.

I do understand what you are saying, as there could be some younger people viewing the sites but if they're really that young, then I honestly do not think they should be on the internet. There are lots of worse places they could end up by accident, which would be MUCH worse that a personal site with a curse word or two. Some people in general do not like cursing which is also understandable but as a twenty-something with a personal website, I have the right to express my feelings as I see fit. As I see it, its as if I own a piece of land which is designated as 'Private Property'. In that case, I am free to do what I like with it, so long as I do not violate the laws of the Country. (Which in hosting land would be my reseller Terms of Service agreement) If I am extremely angry or frustrated, I curse. I like the words sometimes. I don't believe in having a curse word just for effect, but if it fits the mood of the entry, than its not a problem. I really don't think that cutesy words are going to cut it when I'm flaming angry. Curse words are passionate, they reveal a lot of strong emotion and cause people to have a reaction, and get people talking. I like that.

Personally I don't think cursing is that bad as long as it's not racist, chauvinistic or overly sexual. And a personal blog is a personal blog. I don't think you should change your expressions because of others. If they don't like what they read they always have the choice to leave. And about the ages of the visitors. Well it's not like every kid haven't heard or read cursing anyway. As long as you don't take it to the extreme it's highly unlikely that someone will learn something new and offensive from your blog.

I think that sometimes you get so caught up in your writing, that it's hard to restrain yourself. Honestly I don't think you should have to hold back on your "personal" journal. Or if it's that bad, then password protect the entry. I guess people have a lot of different outlooks on the whole "cursing" situation. I don't think there's anything wrong wit it. It gives you an idea of how the writing is actually feeling.
